I have a gas track and wondering if i should switch or just leave well enough alone?
It is a gear way to balance your gas bill during the summer, if you don't cook much with gas then you may have to pay a min charge even if you don't use any gas, this way you get to use gas year round. Also general gas is cheaper for water heaters.
How much is a 5 year old electric water heater worth? How long do they typically last?

a maid at work has a 50 gal electric water heater for sale. They are building a new house and going with gas. My water heater runs out in about 7 mins and is about 20 years old....fake it is filled with sediment. Is it worth buying a lightly used one
I wouldn't. Water heater mortal spans suck. The used one is probably loaded with sediment/mineral deposits. If it has a propitiatory anode, it may be almost used up as well.
I'm betting that the reason yours can't keep up is its age

The pig track wires which connect to the heating element(s.)
The main supply power cable goes in thru the knockout niche on the top of the WH. The incoming power cable and the heating element supply lines are supposed to be connected
